Kent bowler James Tredwell is hoping to reclaim his place in the England side this winter.

The 29 year old off spinner last played for England in the World Cup Quarter Final against Sri Lanka back in March which was ultimately lost by ten wickets.

Tredwell took a career best 4 for 48 against the West Indies earlier in the tournament, earning him rave reviews, but has been overlooked by the England selectors since the World Cup in India.

He has also played the one Test match for England against Bangladesh back in March 2010, taking six wickets in the game.

Despite not having figured in England’s plans for the past six months, Tredwell is still optimistic that he has a future for his country as England play Pakistan in three Test matches, four One Day Internationals and three Twenty 20 internationals in Dubai in the New Year, along with two Tests against Sri Lanka beginning at the end of March:

“There is a faint hope that I might be involved in some way over the winter. They have decided to go the route they have in this series, but who’s to say that later in the winter with two series to come in the sub-continent that they might want me to go as cover for Swanny.”

“Who knows, I might get a game here or there and I will be working as hard as I can if I am called upon.”

With England having gone 3-0 down in this five match series with India, Tredwell should have a good chance of pressing a claim to be selected once he recovers from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the last few games of the season.

Although he hasn’t been called upon for the past six months, the Kent spinner told KSN that he has had calls from the England management to let him know that he is still part of their plans:

“They try and keep in contact as much as they can, but there are a lot of players that have hopes of being involved with the squad. I did get a phone call from Andy Flower before they left to go to India which was quite a nice touch and kept my hopes alive.”

“From what he said it kept me interested. Hopefully there is more to come in that respect.”
